Playground
The Playground runs a live is-member check for one identifier from inside the app. Use it to confirm a realtime audience is behaving the way you intended before you point an integration at it.
Running a check
- Navigate to Personalize → Membership → Playground.
- Pick the identity field to look up (
user_idoranonymous_id) and enter a value. - Optionally narrow to a single audience, which makes the verdict definitive either way. Leave it unset to sweep the workspace.
- Run the check.
The verdicts come back as a list, named rather than shown as raw ids. You can copy the same request as a curl command to move straight to integration.
Two modes
| Mode | How it authenticates | What you see |
|---|---|---|
| Debug | Your signed-in session, through Zeotap — no key needed | Every serveable audience with its verdict, false ones included, plus when each audience was last rebuilt and whether a verdict may be a false match |
| Live | A membership key (pk_) you supply, calling the API directly | Exactly what the API returns: the audiences this person is in, and nothing else |
The two modes differ in shape, not only in detail. Debug is the internal read, so it lists non-members too and explains each verdict; the public API reports positives only and carries no such explanation. Neither is withholding anything by accident — see Response for why the public shape is the narrower one. Switch to Live to see precisely what your application will get.
Reading the result
- An audience is missing in Debug. It is not currently serveable. The most common reason is that it has never been rebuilt — check Snapshots.
- An audience is missing in Live. Either this person is not in it, or it is not serveable — the public response does not distinguish the two. Narrow to that one audience to get a definitive verdict, or compare against Debug.
- Nothing comes back at all for an identifier you expect to match. Zeotap has no behaviour recorded against that identifier. Confirm the value is one your realtime events actually carry.
- A verdict is flagged as a possible false match. The audience has a “has not done X” condition whose tracking is younger than its window, so the absence may not be real. See the freshness notes on the API reference.
Next Steps
- Membership API — the endpoint reference, for when the check works and you are ready to integrate.
- Snapshots — rebuild the warehouse half of your audiences.
